LMS is pleased to announce our upcoming Scholars-in-Residence, Sivan Rahav Meir (April 27-28), and Rabbi Hershel Schachter (May 4-5)!
Sivan Rahav Meir is one of the most popular media personalities in Israel today. She is a prime-time anchor on Channel 2 News; has a column in Israel’s largest newspaper, Yediot Aharonot; and has a weekly radio show on Galei Tzahal (Army Radio). She is one of the very few public intellectuals who is well respected across the religious-secular spectrum, and has attracted a tremendous following on social media for her Torah-infused, family-centered insights into Jewish life and tradition. Her lectures in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem attract over 1,000 people each week. Sivan Rahav Meir recently published her first book, “#Parasha”.
Rabbi Hershel Schachter is the Rosh Yeshiva at RIETS. He is a noted Talmudic scholar and has had a distinguished career with RIETS for nearly 50 years where at age 26, he became the youngest Rosh Yeshiva. Since 1971, Rabbi Schachter has been Rosh Kollel in RIETS’ Marcos and Adina Katz Kollel and also holds the institution’s Nathan and Vivian Fink Distinguished Professorial Chair in Talmud. In addition to his teaching duties, Rabbi Schachter lectures, writes, and serves as a world renowned decisor of Jewish Law. A prolific author, he has written more than 100 articles, in Hebrew and English, for such scholarly publications as HaPardes, Hadarom, Beth Yitzchak, and Or Hamizrach. Seforim written include Eretz HaTzvi, B’ikvei HaTzon, Ginas Haegoz, and Nefesh HaRav, MiPninei HaRav and Divrei HaRav.
